Thyroid tablets USP 30mg recalled: Check lot number 504950

Vitruvias Therapeutics Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of one of its thyroid tablets after testing confirmed the product could be ”superpotent,” or stronger than intended.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed that the affected product, Thyroid Tablets USP 30mg with lot number 504950 and National Code Drug Code 69680-166-00, was distributed nationwide between January 31 and September 30, 2025.

About 1,955 of 3,655 units issued have been sold, the company stated.

Using very strong thyroid tablets may result in hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid and give rise to problems such as weight loss, inability to withstand hot temperatures, feeling tired, being irritable, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, chest pains, and tachycardia. People who fall into the age category of the elderly, expectant mothers, and babies are more likely to suffer from side effects.

The company has not received any reports of adverse reactions related to the recall as of Monday, August 24. The recall process began following the confirmation of the possibility of the superpotency of the drug following test results. The pills have an expiry date of September 30, 2026.

For patients who are currently using the medication, they are warned against stopping use of the medication without consulting a health care provider. Vitruvias Therapeutics will be reaching out to distributors so as to stop the distribution of the drug and destroy all the recalled drugs.
