GTA 6 leak won't delay August 27 premiere as Rockstar scrambles to identify leaker

Rockstar Games has been thrown into chaos after a hacker released Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage far earlier than anyone anticipated.

Rockstar Games has not identified the leaker or what exactly led to the breach, claimed senior journalist Jason Schreier.

Schreier had been told by a Rockstar insider that the company is still on track with the Netflix premiere for ‘Extended Look’ on August 27.

For context, back in 2022, a hacker leaked dozens of snaps and video footage before GTA VI was officially announced.

Amid the Cyberleek that stormed the internet with inside clips, Take-Two (parent company of Rockstar Games) filed multiple court orders in federal district court seeking details on the recent GTA 6 gameplay video leaks.

The company has filed requests with both Microsoft and Discord with legal demands of any records linked to various accounts involved in posting and sharing leaks of GTA 6.

Until now, identity of the person or group involved for releasing gameplay leaks ahead of its release remains unknown.

The viral clips were posted under the account ‘Cyberleek’ stemmed from a portal that flashed a message threatening the gaming publishers to stop practices of a digital-first approach.

The gameplay leaks have frustrated the Rockstar Games’ leadership and employees alike, which is the reason why it’s the second time that GTA 6 has suffered another major leak.

The first one led to drastic overhauls in how Rockstar manages security, and no incident could lead to similar changes.

The one thing that is different from the one that happened in 2022 is that another hacking group, 'Lapsus$', walked away with a massive haul of GTA 6 content.
