Hunter Biden opens up about father's stage 4 cancer: ‘It's really sad to watch'

Hunter Biden opened up about his father, former U.S. president Joe Biden’s scary health battle with stage 4 prostate cancer.

Hunter, 56, reflecting on the agonising journey his father has been through in the recent past, said, “It’s really sad to watch.”

Appearing for an interview on BBC News primetime show Newsnight, that aired on Friday, August 7, 2026.

“Cancer is really hard. It’s really hard to watch,” said Hunter.

The Biden family made public the former U.S. president’s stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025.

They said his cancer was “characterised by a Gleason score of 6 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

“His father is still the centre of our family,” calling him the “best father, the best husband, the best grandfather.”

Hunter, while providing an update on his father’s health, added, “The only thing that I say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more.”

Hunter also spoke about the much-talked-about presidential debate held in June 2024, which hit a major blow to Biden’s campaign at the time.

He said he had closely followed it from his California home and “was shocked".
