Nikki Reed opens up about how Ian Somerhalder romance really began

Nikki Reed shared rare insights into her and husband Ian Somerhalder's love life.

During a recent chat on her appearance at Vampire Fan Weekend on June 7, the Twilight alum revealed how she and Ian's romance blossomed after years of friendship.

“I was doing something somewhere for 13,” she explained. “He was with a friend and he asked, ‘Who is that person?’ Shortly after that, we were introduced by a friend because we had similar philanthropic goals. We worked in similar areas in that capacity, so we stayed in touch as friends for many many years.”

At the time, Ian was dating his Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev, and Nikki was married to Paul McDonald, whom she divorced in 2014.

However, after one honest conversation, their friendship turned into a romantic relationship. “We were hanging out one day and he asked me, ‘How’s Paul?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, he’s great! We got divorced, but he’s great and we still play music together,’” Nikki shared.

Ian responded: “Well, I’m dating someone but I’m gonna go tell her that this is over because it’s always been you.”

After this conversation, they started dating in 2014 and tied the knot in 2015.

The couple also share share 7-year-old daughter Bodhi and an 11-month-old son
