Girl, 15, charged with murder in Chicago red line train death: Everything to know

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly pushing a man from a moving CTA Red Line train in Chicago, police said.

Kyle Bickman, 29, was heading home from work on September 7 when he was pushed from the train near the 69th Street station during an altercation around 2:30 p.m., according to police.

He landed on the electrified third rail, became incapacitated, and was later struck by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen, who has not been identified due to her age, faces several felonies including first-degree murder, mob action, and aggravated battery of a transit employee.

The girl, who cannot be named as a minor, is charged with numerous felonies, including first-degree murder, mob action, and aggravated battery of a transit worker. Police took her into custody Friday in the 400 block of West 76th Street in the Greater Grand Crossing area, and she appeared in court the next day for a detention hearing.

Internal police memo acquired by WGN-TV reveals that CTA cameras were operating at the time of the crime. According to video footage, one of the suspects opened the side door and then three people pushed Bickham out of the moving car. Bickham is considered one of three criminals, though no other arrests have been made.

Initially, detectives assumed that Bickham had jumped off the train; however, it was proved later on that Bickham was pushed.

The family of the deceased describes him as an affectionate and hard-working person who loved his close people. Bickham was one of four brothers and the youngest boy in his family. His relatives say that he enjoyed making others laugh and spending time with close people.

No information about the identity of the other two suspects has been released by the police yet.
