Kesha breaks silence on 'Cannibal' backlash 2.0

Kesha recently addressed being called out for the Jeffrey Dehmer lyric in her song, Cannibal.

As fans will be aware, her 2010's Cannibal became fan-favourite and made way for a dance trend in 2020.

However, when this song gained popularity again, the songstress got slammed for putting in a verse centered around the cannibalist, Jeffrey Dahmer.

The song’s second verse goes as "Be too sweet, and you'll be a goner / I'll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer."

When people called out Kesha for this lyric, and her mom, Pebe Sebert, a cowriter on the song, defended her at the time.

However, she broke silence on the matter and addressed the backlash she faced in a new chat with PEOPLE Magazine, "It's just an interesting time where that can happen now.”

"It's a trippy thing to witness, and it's so cool, and I love it,” she added of the song, which became popular enough to ignite a dance trend.

“I'm connecting to a whole different audience that wasn't even alive when I wrote the songs," she expressed and recalled, “Oh my God, I got re-canceled for the Jeffrey Dahmer lyric."

She admitted, "It was a controversial lyric."

She declared, "If some people aren't offended by what I'm doing, I'm probably not doing a very good job of being a pop star," and moved on to a new topic.
