The M3GAN 2.0 producer Jason Blum has opened up about why the sequel flopped at the box office.

While appearing for an interview in a recent episode of The Town, the Ceo of Blum house production candidly shared three reasons that he believed contributed to the underperformance of the movie.

"I've been in pain all weekend long, and I've been thinking about all this stuff way too much," he began. "I thought, 'You know what? If Blumhouse is in a slump, I'd like to tell that story. I don't want other people to tell that story.'"

Sharing the first reason, Blum said, "We all thought M3GAN was like Superman. We could do anything to her. We could change genres. We could put her in the summer. We could make her look different. We could turn her from a bad guy into a good guy. And we kind of classically over thought how powerful people's engagement was really with her."

Premiering it against Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible and Brad Pitt’s F1 was the second reason, he continued, "We thought she could live in the summer. we're going from a little horror movie to a tent pole."

For those unversed, M3GAN 2.0 was initially planned to release in January as its original M3GAN was also released in the same month.

Referring to director Gerard Johnstone’s skill, he told the third season, "When you genre switch, your execution has to be A+. A terrific director... who couldn't solve almost anything you throw at him.”

“You know, and we got too excited. We got too excited by M3GAN, and you know, she didn't work. So that's what happened," Jason Blum concluded.

It is pertinent to mention that M3GAN 2.0 was released on June 27, has grossed $20 million worldwide against a budget of $15-25 million.
