Charlize Theron, the Oscar-winning actress and long-time activist, has issued a chilling warning.
At the fifth annual Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program Block Party on the Universal lot on Saturday, June 28, the 49-year-old South African-American actress and film producer gave sharp comments about the significant cuts to foreign aid and women's rights.
Theron said, “The world feels like it’s burning because it is. Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we are moving backwards fast.”
“Immigration policy is destroying the lives of families, not criminals. Women’s rights are becoming less and less every day, queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased, and gender-based violence is on the rise. This isn’t just policy, it’s personal. Fuck them,” she noted.
The Atomic Blonde star went on to state that the cuts to foreign aid have “brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill. All of this is not just detrimental, it’s dangerous. People will lose their lives. Many have already unfortunately and at a frightening rate. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of unnecessary suffering.”
For the unversed, the important part of the agenda of President Donald Trump’s administration is cutting foreign aid but the Atomic Blonde actress refrained from mentioning Trump’s name.
It is pertinent to mention that the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) was started 18 years ago in order to support young people in her native country, South Africa, and up until now, the programmes supported by CTAOP have facilitated more than 4.5 million youth and handed out $15 million to organisations in southern Africa.
