Cynthia Erivo keeps confusing Jonathan Bailey for her old school pal!
The iconic actress mistakenly kept telling people that she went to drama school with her Wicked co-star because she feels like the two have known each other for years.
Even though the two regularly work in London theatre and even appeared in the same show, Chewing Gum, the two British celebrities did not officially meet each other until they began rehearsals for the Wicked movie, in which Erivo plays Elphaba and Bailey, the love interest, Fiyero.
The two clicked instantly during rehearsals and developed a rather close bond that Erivo started believing they went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London together.
"I keep making the mistake and saying that he went to (RADA)," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Erivo continued, "In my head, I feel I've known him for such a long time that in my head we went to the same school. One day, he was like, 'Cyn, you keep telling people that we went to RADA together, but I didn't go to RADA.'"
In reality, Bailey never went to drama school but still has theatre credits such as Company, Les Misérables and Richard II, after being discovered by the Royal Shakespeare Company at a ballet class at the age of seven.
The Outsider actress praised her co-star’s work ethic and mentioned, "He loves working. Loves it! He's always searching for something, but he's playful at the same time, so the air is always light when you're around him."
It is pertinent to mention that Cyntia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey will be sharing the screen together once again in the second part of the Wicked musical, titled, Wicked: For Good, which is scheduled for a November 21, 2025 release.
