Sting just sent out a message of support for The Christians’ drummer, Lionel Duke, who suffered a cardiac arrest on stage.

The former Police front man played in Liverpool at the On The Waterfront festival at Pier Head, marking his first performance in the city since 1979.

Earlier the same day, the popular ‘80s band played on the same stage and aft4r just two songs, Lionel collapsed with the front man, Garry Christian having to call for help from emergency services.

Shortly afterwards, a spokesperson for the band confirmed to the audience that Lionel had most likely suffered from cardiac arrest.

“We’re really hoping he is going to make it,” the spokesperson said, adding, “He didn’t have a pulse, he’s got one now, we think. Thank you so much.”

A post on The Christians’ Facebook page read, “We are awaiting news from the Heart and Chest Hospital at Broad Green and thank the phenomenal team of medics present from On The Waterfront Liverpool team who stepped in so swiftly to help our poor Lionel. Please send positive vibes this way.”

The Christians supported Sting in complete capacity for a smooth transition to his headlining set and when the Shape of My Heart singer eventually took to the stage, he shared a few words on Lionel Duke’s condition.

“The drummer in the band before is OK,” Sting told the crowd, adding, “He’s in hospital. All of us are praying he’s going to be fine. Our thoughts are with him.”
