Trent Reznor just revealed its not easy to be a successful musician.

As time goes on, the pressures of the rock and roll lifestyle can become a little too much and as for Reznor, the breakthrough moment of his career came at the turn of the 20th century.

After the Nine Inch Nails’ front man’s album, The Downward Spiral, shot the band to stardom in the mid-1990s but their following effort, The Fragile, didn’t quite witness the same success, the Closer hitmaker automatically felt pressured to do better.

Inevitably, the musician fell into serious alcohol and drug addiction and told Spin, “I was going to just drink myself or drug myself out of it. I got back to New Orleans after the Fragile tour, and I’d pretty much lost my soul.”

However, hitting rock bottom was what perhaps saved Reznor in the end since he released his 2005 album, With Teeth.

“I disappeared for five years to get my brain straightened out. I came back with a really dense album [With Teeth] that I think is the best I can do,” the Just Us rocker confessed.

Reflecting on how his 2005 effort is different from his other works, the singer-songwriter added, “But it’s substantially different from what I’ve done in the past. It’s not as obvious. And it sold well, but it didn’t sell great.”

“When I first started out, I’d ride around the country in a van ten times if I needed to. I’d do interviews all day if I needed to,” Trent Reznor concluded.
