King Charles apologizes over delay in major decision

King Charles has apologized over delay in his major decision, London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has disclosed.

Sadiq received his knighthood from King Charles for political and public service at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

Later, according to the Daily Express, Sir Sadiq Khan said the King apologised to him for "taking so long" to knight him.

Sadiq's knighthood was announced in the New Year Honours list.

As per the Reuters, Sadiq Khan, former England soccer boss Gareth Southgate, and Paris Olympics gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson were among the hundreds named in King Charles' New Year honours list.

The full list includes more than 1,200 people in politics, sport, the arts or community service to be awarded honours ranging from Member, Commander or Officer of the Order of the British Empire (MBE, CBE or OBE) up to knighthoods and damehoods.

The mayor said: “I have got the pleasure of working closely with the King. We were just comparing who’s a bigger workaholic. He was very chuffed that he managed to personally give me this honour and he actually apologised for it taking so long – which is not a problem at all.”

Besides Sadiq, Sir Billy Boston became the first sportsman to receive a knighthood for services to Rugby League.

The King presented Sir Billy - who is considered one of the best Rugby League players of all time, scoring a British record of 571 tries and 488 appearances for Wigan Warriors- with his insignia during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
