Miley Cyrus reveals how Cyrus clan healed without therapy after 'dark decade' of tension

Miley Cyrus got candid about a difficult time in her family and how they healed without therapy.

The Flower hitmaker revealed in the June 10 episode of Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky that her family went through a “dark decade” where they weren’t speaking to each other.

The 32-year-old singer shared this time came after her parents’ divorce. “Half of us weren't speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up," she told the host.

Because of her more loyalty to her mom, Tish Cyrus, than her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, it created more division within the family.

With five siblings and ongoing issues, things piled up for years without being addressed. “It’s like emotional hoarding,” Miley explained.

Instead of going through counseling, Miley said the family chose a different approach, "bringing some happiness and joy into each other's life".

“I just kind of bust through the pile… and just go, ‘I’m here. You’re here. Let’s start by having a good time together.’”

She added that getting everyone in one room for therapy would have been too hard, so they chose peace over fighting. “We’re so messy we didn’t even do any of that... So it was easier to just go, ‘White flag.’ ”
