Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco released their first ever collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, on March 21, 2025.
The album is said to celebrate the 'love story' of the pair, who got engaged in December 2024, and give fans a 'unique window' into their relationship.
While promoting the album on Hot Hits with Nic & Loren podcast, the record producer was asked that If he had any plans for doing a live performance with his ladylove.
"That's like my worst nightmare," the Bad Decisions songwriter responded by saying.
Referring to an American Music Awards show and a comedy sketch show, he told the host, "Doing live shows, like, anytime I had to do SNL or like AMAs I'm always just like, 'When's it over? When's it over?'"
"I just want to be home on my couch," Blanco explained.
Before concluding, the host, Nic Kelly, wittily announced, “Selena and Benny on a couch tour, coming to a city near you.”
Following this, Blanco faced backlash from Gomez's fans as they see his comment, his way to 'control' the songstress. Fans took it to their X accounts, formerly known as Twitter, to pen their opinion.
“That man being a weirdo and controlling Selena’s music career once again… no wonder ISILYF tanked bcoz the entire thing as well as the collab album was his idea,” one fan commented.
“So Benny Blanco suddenly thinks he has the power to decide what Selena does with her OWN music career… he literally said he won't let her do tour and live stage,” another fan chimed in.
Meanwhile, some of the fans defended him, a third person said, “Y'all like to babysit Selena too much... Literally the guy spoke for himself, nothing else. Y'all think Selena is dumb enough to let people, let alone, A MAN control her or her career?” while another fan defended by adding, "He literally never said that, he said he hates it but didn't even mention Sel.”
