Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, at 12:23 p.m. (MDT; UTC-6:00) while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, during the first stop of Turning Point USA’s American Comeback Tour.

Thursday marks the first anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Video from the scene showed Kirk taking questions from an audience member about a mass shooting when a single shot rang out. He was struck in the neck and later pronounced dead.

President Donald Trump honoured Kirk on Wednesday, September 9, at the Republican National Convention in Dallas, where attendees broke into chants of “Charlie, Charlie.”

Trump said: “What shocked millions of Americans was not only the fact that Charlie was murdered, as bad as it was, but also how many people made an excuse for it or cheered for it.”

“He also signed out Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who was seated at the convention,” he added.

TPUSA is having a public memorial service outside their Phoenix headquarters from 8 in the morning to around 7 in the evening on Thursday, with mandatory security checks. According to a pop-up post on the group’s website: “For those who loved and cared about Charlie, September 10 will never again be just an anniversary. It will be the day that everything changed forever.”

The suspect, 23-year-old Tyler Robinson, surrendered himself two days after the shooting incident. In the same month, Judge Tony Graf ordered Robinson to stand trial for aggravated murder, which makes him eligible for the death penalty if found guilty. He has denied all charges against him.

It was reported that the prosecutors said Robinson had confessed to his partner and left behind a note saying “I had the chance to get rid of Charlie Kirk, and I did.”
