Baker Mayfield sealed the deal with a whopping $165 million contract extension that ends NFL’s most talked about contract standoffs this offseason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their star quarterback have inked a deal with a three-year extension, the team announced on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Mayfield was just five days before heading into the regular season, inked a contract extension with the Bucs that is valued at a whopping $165 million.

With a $55 million cash out per season, Mayfield becomes one of the highest-paid QBs in NFL history, matching him with Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, and Matthew Stafford.

The signing also saw Mayfield becoming the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Announcing the deal, the Bucs owner, Joel Glazer, said in a statement on Tuesday, September 8, that “Baker’s arrival marked an important new chapter for our organization, and over the past three years he has established himself as the unquestioned leader of our franchise.”

The Bucs’ last highest-paid quarterback was none other than Mayfield’s current contract—three years valued at $100 million which averages $33.33 million per year.
