Tom Cruise, Anne Hathaway shock fans with surprise project

Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway are gearing up for a sequel, fans have no idea about.

Paramount Pictures and the two stars announced Saturday, that they are teaming up for a new Days of Thunder movie, bringing Cruise’s NASCAR driver Cole Trickle back to the big screen more than three decades after the original.

Hathaway will play a team owner and engineer, while Cruise will also produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50, Long Shot) is directing from a script by Will Staples.

And yes, this one is going big. The new Days of Thunder will be filmed for IMAX and is scheduled to race into theaters on June 2, 2028.

Paramount marked the announcement with a photo of Cruise, 64, and Hathaway, 43, posing at Daytona International Speedway beside a green racecar.

The pair also shared a video announcing the project.

The original 1990 film, directed by Tony Scott, starred Cruise alongside Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Michael Rooker and Cary Elwes.

It also helped launch Nicole Kidman into international stardom and marked her first movie with Cruise.

Cruise already knows how to revive a classic. Top Gun: Maverick, released 36 years after the original, became a $1.5 billion blockbuster and earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination.

Hathaway, meanwhile, is showing no signs of slowing down.

After starring in four 2026 releases, she has Verity, Alone at Dawn and The Princess Diaries 3 still on the horizon.
