Will Smith returns to movies with thriller 'Supermax'

Will Smith is trading Hollywood red carpets for prison corridors — and his latest movie already sounds like trouble.

The 57-year-old Oscar winner was spotted filming Supermax in Sydney, Australia, on August 26.

 Smith was seen walking through the outdoor hallways of the Western Sydney Hotel in a metallic copper tracksuit, white T-shirt and Nike Jordans.

The upcoming Amazon MGM Studios thriller follows two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world’s most secure prison. 

Smith plays Rex, the lead character, with AnnaSophia Robb and Jaafar Jackson also joining the cast.

Robb, 32, plays the FBI agent working alongside Rex. She confirmed her casting on Instagram in July, writing, “Extremely grateful. Extremely pumped. Extremely ready to kick some a$$.”

The film is being produced by Smith’s Westbrook alongside Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax, with David Gordon Green directing. David Weil and David J. Rosen wrote the screenplay and also serve as executive producers.

Supermax is Smith’s first movie since Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which reunited him with longtime friend Martin Lawrence. The 2024 action comedy earned $193.5 million domestically.

Smith has kept busy away from movies, too. Earlier this year, he hosted National Geographic’s Pole to Pole with Will Smith, taking on wild challenges including skiing to the South Pole, diving beneath North Pole ice and even encountering a giant anaconda.

He also made a surprise appearance in Bel-Air as “OG,” giving the younger Will some advice in the series finale.

Now, Smith is back where audiences expect him: in the middle of the action. And this time, there’s a prison, a murder and apparently plenty of secrets involved.
