Calaveras district clarifies timeline after 'chaotic' school bus incident video goes viral

A chaotic scene unfolded on a school bus in Calaveras County when a bus driver refused to let students exit the bus.

After the driver’s refusal, parents took matters into their own hands, storming the bus, and the video of the incident has since gone viral.

The incident sparked buzz on social media; the Calaveras Unified School District issued a clarification to Monday’s chaotic school bus incident.

“Based on our review of the bus video footage, the bus was stopped for approximately four minutes while the driver addressed concerning student behaviour, reviewed bus expectations, and asked students to calm down.

“During that time, students exited the bus through a window,” the district said.

After examining the viral chaotic bus video, the district said it believes the driver “acted appropriately under extremely challenging circumstances.”

“His focus remained on student safety, maintaining order, and attempting to de-escalate the situation,” the district said in its clarification statement.

The incident follows the arrest of a California mother this week after she allegedly hit the school bus door, tried to get her child out through a bus window.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies were called to a school bus on August 24, following a chaotic scene involving a parent and the bus driver.

On the other hand, in the latest update to the case, the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Kathleen Kraker appeared in court for the first time to hear the charges against her on Wednesday, August 26.
