Royals face heat on ‘out of touch' move for disgraced member: Unimaginable

The Royal Family of Norway is currently going through a tough time with health setbacks of the King and the Crown Princess, a conviction of a family member and now a blunder may have stirred new trouble.

Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit, the Crown Prince couple, celebrated their milestone wedding anniversary on Tuesday. The Palace shared a special portrait of the royals marking the occasion.

Then, the royal couple chose to share never-before-seen photos in a carousel post, writing “grateful” in Norwegian for 25 years of their marriage.

The two had gotten married at the Oslo Cathedral on August 25, 2001. When Mette-Marit had gotten married, she also had a son, Marius Borg Høiby – the now 29-year-old facing a four-year sentence on two counts of rape.

The controversial family member made an appearance in one of the throwback photos, where Prince Haakon is seen carrying Marius on his shoulders at a a beach.

Followers quickly dubbed this as a big mistake and error of judgement, given the circumstances.

“posting a picture of marius is definitely a choice,” One user wrote, adding “so out of touch”.

Another suggested that the British royal family would’ve face a crisis situation if that had happened.

“Just imagine if Queen Camilla’s son from her first marriage were a convicted s*x offender, and his mother remained completely silent about it in public—yet proceeded to post photos with him and allow him to serve his sentence on the grounds of Windsor Castle,” they said. “Unimaginable.”

One royal watcher noted that it was a major break in stereotypes as Prince Haakon followed his heart and raised Marius as his own, while another argued that the said son is charged of heinous crime.

“It always felt really cool he followed his heart and raised her son as his own. However, that son is now an adult responsible for his own actions, and his actions are reprehensible,” they said.

“To highlight Marius, especially when they don’t feature their other kids, in light of everything that has happened feels very deliberate and is disappointing.”
