Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie face a tough challenge ahead despite having the support of King Charles, as decisions could take a major U-turn.
Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace announced that Eugenie had welcomed her third child (her first daughter) in Portugal. The statement acknowledged that along with the monarch, “other members of The Royal Family” were also delighted by the news.
It indicated that the York sisters held supports from not just the King but also the wider family, especially all the senior royals, as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson remain ousted from the fold.
Though, the latest poll by YouGov did not indicate a positive view, as Beatrice and Eugenie fell in their popularity ranking, even below Prince Harry.
According to an analysis by Hello!, there are certain groups in the public that the Firm relies on in a time of crisis, as these groups are very “consistently pro-royal” and if they turn against them, then “bouncing back is far more difficult”.
“Women, pensioners, the middle classes, Conservative voters and residents of the South of England” have not shown the same support for the princesses compared to previous numbers.
“For what it's worth, I think this is unfair on Beatrice and Eugenie,” Senior royal reporter Jack Malvern explained, noting that the sisters were young when their parents had ties with Epstein
However, the drop in popularity could influence the decisions taken by the monarch.
“The sisters have been notably absent from royal events they have previously attended. They avoided Royal Ascot, the royal Easter Sunday service at Windsor, the royal box at Cheltenham Festival, Trooping the Colour and the summer garden parties at Buckingham Palace,” he pointed out.
Beatrice and Eugenie are already in a pickle about their “rent-free” royal homes as it gives them a “bad look”. It remains to be seen if Charles would be pressurised into a making a decision about that too, like he did with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
