Scarlett Johansson is speaking up against AI and highlighting the dangers it poses to human society.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Scarlett noted how AI can be useful in editing films, but dangerous when it begins to blur the lines between what's real and what's fake.
"That's a threat. The bigger picture - about how we human beings, with fragile egos, can continue to have the trust that we have to have in one another, to continue as a society. It's a moral compass," she said.
"We move around the world every day just knowing we have to trust in some basic reality that we all agree on," the Jurassic World Rebirth star explained.
The Oscar nominated star continued, "AI threatens the foundation of that, and that to me is very haunting."
She also argued that AI can’t do the work of an actor, saying, "I just don't believe the work I do can be done by AI," she said.
"I don't believe the soulfulness of a performance can be replicated," Scarlett reiterated.
The Other Boleyn Girl star’s comments come after her voice was apparently used by OpenAI to model their voice assistant despite her refusal when they asked her for permission.
Both fans and the actress thought it was too similar to her voice, specifically the way she spoke when she played an AI robot in the film HER.
When Scarlett Johansson’s legal team took action, the virtual assistant, named Sky, was removed from ChatGPT.
