M3GAN' director shares exciting news about spin-off 'SOULM8TE'

M3GAN's director James Wan has just dished on some exciting news for fans.

While promoting his recently released movie M3GAN on Entertainment Tonight, he appeared for an interview alongside executive director, Allison Williams.

Revealing what fans can expect from the spin-off, SOULM8TE, the director began by sharing that the movie will be “like fatal attraction with robots.”

Referring to the previous movie’s robot M3GAN, Wan said, “It is hard to replicate that sassiness that M3GAN has, and we don't really want to do the same thing that we've done because M3GAN has fully stuck a claim to that style of humor, if you will.”

“M3GAN, obviously, dabbles in the PG-13 world, the younger demographic. We always felt like there might be a more adult story to tell, and that's really what SOULM8TE is,” he added.

SOULM8TE revolves around a man, who buys an artificially intelligent android robot to cope with the loss of his wife's death.

Lily Sullivan will star in the science-fiction movie alongside David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit, and Oliver Cooper.

Meanwhile, Allison Williams chipped in by saying, “It's already happening in parts of the world. These exist, So it felt irresistible to then say, if a M3GAN existed in our world, someone would take that tech”

“Put in the form of a female-bodied person whose sole purpose on the planet is to pleasure a person. We extrapolate from there.”

“We will give you a different person and a different story and an R-rated world to do this in. Let M3GAN be M3GAN, and leave her out of this completely,” she added before signing off.

SOULM8TE is set to be released on January 6, 2026.
