Prince Harry is set to extend a major olive branch to King Charles and the senior royals.
However, an expert has suggested that the olive branch will put King Charles in a difficult position.
According to reports, Prince Harry is set to invite King Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and more senior royals to the next Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham in July 2027.
Commenting on the perceived olive branch, The Express' royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, wrote, “It has been reported that he will invite the King and senior royals to the forthcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham in July 2027.”
“...This invitation, which will apparently be sent shortly, will undoubtedly be seen as a gesture of reconciliation by the Sussexes,” he continued before arguing that the invitation will put the King in a difficult position.
He added, "This clearly places the King in an extremely difficult position, which is precisely what it is meant to do and probably why the venue was chosen."
Richard reasoned, "He is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Invictus is a major military charity. Also, as head of state, he is a symbol of national unity."
"If he accepts, he would be putting duty above what obviously is a painful public rift between him and his family and the Sussexes. It will be argued that that is his job," he added.
Richard guessed that the Prince and Princess of Wales will likely skip the event and opt out of providing Harry and Meghan with photo opportunities.
"From what we know now, it would seem certain that William and Catherine would not attend. The photo opportunities which transpired would be of immeasurable use to the Sussexes brand," he wrote.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a fallout with the Royal Family and stepped down as working royals in 2020 and left for the U.S. There, they made claims of racism and mistreatment against the Royals in an interview with Oprah, their Netflix series Harry & Meghan, and the Duke’s explosive memoir Spare.
