Eric Dane's ALS update turns grim: ‘I can't use my right side'

Eric Dane has tugged at heartstrings once more by revealing what his battle against ALS is looking like these days.

The Grey’s Anatomy star shared the whole thing in an interview with Good Morning America’s Diane Sawyer.

“My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,” he started by saying.

“I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering.”

For those unversed, the 52-year-old was diagnosed with the disease back in April of this year, after months and months of testing.

According to Variety, the initial symptoms started presenting almost a year and a half ago, and began with weakness in his right hand, which he’s now lost the ability to work.

In terms of his thoughts before being handed the diagnosis Eric admitted, “I didn’t really think anything of it at the time. I thought maybe I’d been texting too much or my hand was fatigued, but a few weeks later I noticed it got a little worse. So I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, ‘This is way above my pay grade'.”

But once he was handed the final verdict, Eric noted “I will never forget those three letters. It’s on me the second I wake up. It’s not a dream.”

For those unversed with ALS, it a progressive and fatal disease that works by breaking down the nerves in the body, the resulting impact sees weakened muscles, eventual paralysis and breathing issues. There is also currently no known cure.
