Jhené Aiko is setting the record straight after fans speculated that her new album Westside Whimsy contains digs at her ex Big Sean.

The singer directly denied that one of the album’s most talked-about songs, He Belongs, is about the rapper, with whom she shares 4-year-old son Noah Hasani.

The speculation centred on lyrics in which Aiko sings, “Can't turn a fling into a real thing/ Can't turn a promise to a wedding ring/ Can't turn a h*e into a husband.” Given her long history with Big Sean, some listeners quickly assumed the lines were aimed at him.

One fan shared the lyrics on Threads and claimed they were about Aiko catching Big Sean. Aiko responded simply, “Song is not about him.”

When another user asked whether she had “just rip[ped] into Big Sean all the way through,” Aiko offered an equally direct response: “No.”

Aiko and Big Sean, both 38, first met in a music studio in 2012 and began collaborating on music. They confirmed that they were dating in 2016, though they would break up and get back together several times.

The on again, off again pair welcomed their son, Noah Hasani on November 8, 2022.
