Mariska Hargitay Emmys prep takes unexpected turn

Mariska Hargitay is getting ready to host the Emmys — but she almost had a fashion emergency before the big night.

The Law & Order: SVU star joined the Emmy producing team Thursday, September 10, at the 2026 Emmy Awards Press Preview at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, where she helped roll out the red carpet for Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

Hargitay looked ready for the spotlight in a shimmering LaQuan Smith skirt suit. Then, things apparently got a little too exciting.

USA Today reports that Hargitay suddenly stopped the carpet rollout and announced, “Hold up, wardrobe malfunction! Better now than at the Emmys.”

Exactly what went wrong with the outfit remains unclear, but Hargitay certainly didn’t let the moment ruin her day. Instead, she turned the mishap into a full-on sports celebration.

“I started going into full-on Knicks-mode, kicking the carpet. I was a superhero,” she explained.

When asked if the unexpected moment was good luck, Hargitay had a very confident response: “Damn straight it is.”

And she could certainly use the luck — although her Emmy season is already off to an impressive start.

At last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys, Hargitay won two awards for her documentary My Mom Jayne, taking home Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, the latter as a producer.

Now she’ll trade the red carpet for the main stage when she hosts the Primetime Emmys on September 14.

If this is how Emmy week starts, Monday could be interesting.
