‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!' gets major update amid cancellation rumours

Jimmy Kimmel fans can relax now after recent update.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host is not going anywhere nor the broadcaster, ABC, has any plans of doing so.

Earlier, many rumours suggest that the show might came to an end next year, 2027, marking his contract deadline with ABC. 

But as per Rob Shutter, the company has made its point, “the network wants Kimmel to stay. The decision is his.”

“ABC absolutely wants Jimmy back,” a network insider shared. “Nobody is canceling him, nobody is pushing him out, and there is no farewell plan. ABC wants to extend his contract. Jimmy is the one who hasn’t decided.”

As per the network’s statement, “This information is inaccurate – any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.”

The late-night host has been behind the Jimmy Kimmel Live! desk since 2003. But as his current contract talks heat up, insiders say he’s not looking for another decade-long deal. The host might not want another lengthy commitment.

Instead, insiders shared one possibility is “a shorter extension that could keep him behind the desk until 2029. And the White House might have something to do with it.”

According to a source close to the situation added, Kimmel isn’t interested in exiting while Donald Trump is still in office.

“Jimmy really doesn’t want to leave while Trump is still president,” said the insider. 

“After years of going after Trump on-air, the idea of walking away while he’s still in the White House doesn’t sit well with Jimmy. The last thing he wants is Trump claiming victory and saying he drove Jimmy off television.”

That tension could directly shape his next contract.

For ABC, the math is simple. Kimmel is a late-night staple, and keeping him even a few more years would be a win.

“A deal through 2029 would make sense,” added the source. “ABC would happily sign it tomorrow. Jimmy has earned the right to decide when he leaves — and right now, he hasn’t decided to leave.”
