Chappell Roan admits she has 'missed' performing as she breaks hiatus

Chappell Roan felt right at home at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival over the weekend.

The Grammy-winning artist took the Dandelion stage at Rodrigo's all-women music festival on Saturday, August 29 — marking the first time Roan has performed in almost a year.

“Thank you for having me @daisychainfields,” the 28-year-old later wrote in an Instagram post reflecting on the festival.

Addressing Rodrigo, 23, directly, Roan gushed, “u r so inspiring in so many ways. We need artists like u who use their platform for good and are such a light in the world. Thank you for being you and supporting artists like me, u have changed my life in so many ways.”

Roan then noted that “it felt so good to perform again,” adding, I didn’t realize how much I missed it.”

During her 40-minute set, Roan — dressed in a stewardess getup from the 1997 film The Fifth Element — performed a total of nine songs, including hits like HOT TO GO!, Pink Pony Club, and Good Luck, Babe. She also performed Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, Femininomenon, Red Wine Supernova, Casual, The Subway, and My Kink is Karma.

In December 2025, the eight-time Grammy nominee opened up about the “hardest year of [her] life” in a deeply vulnerable newsletter to fans, revealing that she was displaced by the Los Angeles fires earlier that year.

“I tried to write new songs and got stumped,” she wrote. “I kind of substituted one engagement with culture for another. I didn’t realize how sick I was actually making myself. Doom scrolling made my brain feel actually unwell and my body gross and sluggish,” she reflected, explaining why she had been off social media.

She further admitted that she almost cancelled the US leg of her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things Tour, due to feeling like she wasn’t “mentally healthy enough.” But she was glad that she pushed through, marking the last time she took to stage before taking a break for a “collective restful reset” in 2026.

However, Roan did join Noah Kahan on stage for a duet of her song California for his The Great Divide Tour stop in Pasadena on August 15.
