Fact-check: Video falsely claims Aleema Khanum wants to become PTI president

A video featuring Aleema Khanum, the sister of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, has been shared online with the claim that she said she hopes to one day become president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The claim is false.

Claim

On August 21, a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a nearly two-minute-long video clip from an interview with Aleema conducted by Australian journalist Mario Nawfal.

The post claimed that Aleema wished to become the party’s president and take control of its affairs, adding that she wanted to tarnish Imran Khan's reputation.

"My wish is to become the party president and take control of all party affairs, and this is not possible as long as Imran Khan is alive," read the Urdu-language post. "I wish for Imran Khan to die in prison."

At the time of writing, the post had been viewed 2,625 times and liked 38 times.

Identical claims have also been shared elsewhere on X and Facebook.

Fact

The interview is not recent. It was recorded in August 2025, and Aleema made no such comments about wanting to take over PTI or become its president.

Geo Fact Check reviewed the full one-hour interview and found no instance in which Aleema said she wanted to become the party president or take control of its affairs.

During the interview, Aleema discussed Imran Khan's condition in prison, the May 9 events and the treatment of PTI supporters.

It is also important to note that even in the clip being shared online, Aleema does not make any of the comments alleged in the post's caption.

Verdict: The video is from August 2025 and does not show Aleema Khanum saying she wants to become PTI president or harm Imran Khan's reputation.
