Jacob Elordi hears words of recognition from Ridley Scott: ‘Great'

Jacob Elordi is busy earning heaps of praise from his director Ridley Scott.

“Jacob’s kind of a farm boy,” Scott told People magazine about The Dog Stars star. “He can drive. He got onto that lawnmower tractor, just started the engine, started working it. Nobody told him how.”

The movie depicts the post-apocalyptic world where survival wholly depends on flying planes, navigating deserted towns and perhaps most importantly, taking care of few good dogs.

As per Scott, the director of the movie, the character was very crucial for any actor but Elordi, 29, outshined himself. The film is based on peter Heller’s novel of the same name.

He further told the outlet that it was not he only skill set Elordi brought to the set of the movie. His character’s dog is central to the story, meaning that actor had to work closely with several animals during filming.

“There were three: One dog was an attack dog, one was a dog that was playful and one dog that would sit in the cockpit so that they’re all the same dog,” Scott explained.

The Saltburn actor handled the dogs with care, he said.

“He was so nice to the dog,” shared Scott. “But he was great with all of them and had that command of the animals as well.”

That bond mattered to Scott because the connection between Hig and his dog, Jasper, is central to the narrative.

Following a lethal pandemic, the dog becomes much more than just a companion. He serves as Hig's connection to one of the last remaining fragments of his former life.

“Because Hig would talk to his dog, which was really his friend,” Scott said. “His dog had been a puppy to his wife.”

Keeping it casual, Scott revealed he likes the combination of tenderness and toughness on set and Elordi delivered it.

He noted that he and the actor tagged along on the set really well.

“I’m an older guy, so nothing intimidates me,” he laughed. “[Jacob] and I got on very well because my process of work is very fast.”

The Dog Stars lands into theaters Friday, August 28.
