Chris Evans teases ‘brutal' Steve Rogers story in ‘Avengers: Doomsday'

Chris Evans warned Marvel fans by teasing a “brutal” arc for his on-screen persona Steve Rogers.

The character may have survived some of the MCU's most devastating battles, but now the Fantastic Four star suggested that the former Captain America still isn't getting a break.

Speaking to a packed crowd at Fan Expo Boston on Sunday, August 9, he offered an update about Steve Rogers' journey in Avengers: Doomsday.

“It’s brutal and a really good examination into his nature and his values,” Evans said during his Sunday panel.

The actor then offered a particularly revealing explanation for why Steve appears to be facing such a difficult road once again.

“The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers,” Evans said, noting that the directors behind some of his biggest MCU battles apparently have a favourite habit. “Their favourite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him.”

Evans' comments point to a Doomsday story that could go beyond simply putting Captain America through another round of spectacular superhero battles.

The Russo brothers put Steve through some of the MCU's most punishing experiences. From his ideological clash with Tony Stark and the Avengers' collapse in Civil War to the devastating aftermath of Thanos' victory in Infinity War, the character went through it all.

The filmmaking duo first worked with Evans on Captain America: The Winter Soldier, before reuniting with him for Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
