Matt Damon shared that he and wife Luciana are firmly embracing the reality that their daughters will soon all be grown up and out of the house.
With the empty-nest phase looming, the couple are doing everything they can to make the most of their remaining time under one roof.
Damon explained that they have been having a lot of open conversations about presence and trying to stay anchored in the moment, noting that since it is impossible to slow time down, the only real solution is to be truly there and fully immersed in it.
According to the Hollywood star, the biggest challenge his family faces in achieving that presence is getting off their mobile phones.
This digital distraction is something they are trying to be deeply mindful of, especially after Damon confessed to GQ last month that the ruthless and uncertain nature of the film industry has historically pulled him away from his children more than he would like.
He admitted at the time that always trying to figure out his next career move has often conspired to take him out of the present, something he thinks about a lot now that his kids are getting older.
Because of the heavy demands of his acting career, Damon told PEOPLE it felt incredible to have all four of his daughters join him on the red carpet for the London premiere of his latest epic, The Odyssey.
He acknowledged that his family had to sacrifice a lot for the production, which involved a grueling shoot that took him away from home for a significant period.
Although his daughters managed to visit him on location, he described it as a very long and demanding process, adding how excited he was for his girls to finally watch the finished film.
Damon and Luciana’s long-standing relationship began back in 2003 after a chance meeting at a bar in Florida where she was working as a bartender.
The pair tied the knot in 2005, and the actor legally adopted Alexia, whom Luciana had welcomed from a previous relationship, shortly after their wedding.
The couple then went on to expand their family together, welcoming Isabella in June 2006, Gia in August 2008, and their youngest daughter, Stella, in October 2010.
