Lizzo revealed how letting go of toxic relationships and focusing on self-care brought her peace.
In her recent cover story for Women’s Health published on July 1, the 36-year-old singer talked about her self-healing journey and shared what helped her heal.
The Truth Hurts singer, whose real is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, shared that one of her major decisions in her journey was walking away from unhealthy people in her life and returning to therapy.
“I was like, ‘Bro, I need you once a week,’ ” she said to her therapist.
With that Lizzo embraced the blessings of being gentle to herself. “I was like, I need to be gentle. I want it to feel sacred. I need to release a lot of things from my body.”
Moreover, she detached herself from social media, as she was depending on external validation. “My validation was from external sources, people telling me they loved me, or that I look good, and accepting me.”
She handed her social media to her team and focused on rebuilding self worth with self confidence from internal validation.
“I can convince myself that I’m beautiful, my body fine, no matter how big or small. But reminding myself that you can’t let others tell you who you are—that was hard work.”
