Lizzo makes rare comment on rebuilding self worth away from social media

Lizzo opened up about how stepping away from social media helped her heal.

In a recent chat with Women’s Health, the 36-year-old singer reflected on her healing journey.

The Truth Hurts singer, whose real is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, revealed how handing over her social media accounts to her team and not reading online comments brought her peace.

“My validation was from external sources, people telling me they loved me, or that I look good, and accepting me,” Lizzo shared.

She went on to say, “It helped me build self-confidence. But if that’s all I’m getting my validation from, when it changes—and it will, because people are not always going to like you—what happens? Where are you going to get your love from?”

“I can convince myself that I’m beautiful, my body fine, no matter how big or small. But reminding myself that you can’t let others tell you who you are—that was hard work,” she added.
