Prince William has been twice awarded the world’s sexiest bald man. But when he was young, his beachy blonde hair and wide smile already made him a heartthrob figure.

Many magazines at the time featured the King-in-waiting on their covers, with scores of female fans lining up to see him on his tours.

In his book Yes, Ma’am, royal author Tom Quinn penned, “Being a young king in waiting is rather like being a pop star. The position, the glamour and money associated with it does strange things to people.”

“At Kensington Palace, a number of women, including female staff, were thought to have flirted with William," he continued. "One or two female members of staff were moved to other duties as a result."

Similarly, Richard Kay in TheMail penned how there were "crowds of teenage girls weeping, screaming and jostling to just catch a glimpse of their idol."

The craze for William is still going strong as he celebrates his 43rd birthday; his popularity rating was found at 71% in a recent YouGov poll, a record high in the Royal Family.
