Buckingham Palace plans 'every detail' for aftermath of King Charles' ultimate death

Buckingham Palace officials have reportedly begun preparations for the aftermath of King Charles’ looming death.

According to sources close to the royal household, the officials know the time has come to rehearse the protocol for the death of the monarch, who’s battling cancer at the age of 76.

The protocol is reportedly named Operation Menai Bridge and includes every minor detail of how the matter will be handled.

The protocol will be similar to Operation London Bridge, which was the protocol for Queen Elizabeth’s death and subsequent measures that had to be taken, coordinating government, police, the military, and media across the UK.

A senior royal aide anonymously told Radar Online, "These are rehearsals no one wants to do, but everyone has to be ready. Every detail is planned – from who calls whom to how flags are lowered."

Last year, Royal Protection Officer Simon Morgan, 52, who served in the Queen’s security detail, revealed that the process began soon after Charles ascended the throne on September 8, 2022.

He said: "Even the king said in his acceptance that he will take this role for as long as life allows him to... it's got to be in the back of your mind, and from the police, we've got to start planning again for the future."

According to the plan, the King’s private secretary will notify the British Prime Minister and the Privy Council Office of the death. Then, a “call cascade” will follow, which will aim to notify cabinet secretaries, ministers, and senior civil servants. Lastly, flags across Whitehall will be lowered to half-mast followed by a statement issued by Buckingham Palace.

King Charles' wife Queen Camilla will then be known as Queen Dowager instead of Queen Consort. Ultimately, a state funeral will be held before a private burial.
