Sabrina Carpenter has finally addressed the backlash over her Man’s Best Friend album cover.
For the unversed, earlier this month, someone on X (previously Twitter) posted a picture of the Man’s Best Friend album cover and scribbled, “Does she have a personality outside of s***?”
On Monday, June 16, the 26-year-old American singer and songwriter responded, “Girl yes and it is goooooood.”
Carpenter announced her new forthcoming seventh album last week. Although her fans were happy, the album cover made some people upset on social media, as it shows her on all fours while a man holds her hair. People said she was “playing into regressive stereotypes.”
Notably, it is the first time the On My Way songstress responded to someone over the cover criticism, which she made public on June 11.
However, the very next day, on June 12, Rolling Stone published an interview with Carpenter, where she reflected on the backlash she received for using the innuendo in her Short n’ Sweet Tour.
The Espresso hitmaker said, “It’s always so funny to me when people complain. They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly you love s****. You’re obsessed with it.”
“There’s so many more moments than the ‘Juno’ positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on. I can’t control that,” she noted.
“If you come to the show, you’ll [also] hear the ballads, you’ll hear the more introspective numbers. I find irony and humor in all of that, because it seems to be a recurring theme. I’m not upset about it, other than I feel mad pressure to be funny sometimes.”
“I don’t want to be pessimistic, but I truly feel like I’ve never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I’m not just talking about me. I’m talking about every female artist that is making art right now,” Sabrina Carpenter remarked.
Before concluding, it is pertinent to mention that Man’s Best Friend will be released on August 29, 2025.
