Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly ended their long-term relationship, with sources citing a delay in wedding plans as the breaking point.
According to Daily Mail, the couple, who began dating in 2017 and later became engaged—have been quietly separated for some time.
In regards to this, the source reported, “Their relationship has been over for a long time, they just haven’t been able to figure out how to make it official.”
Moreover, the insider added that Johnson was increasingly frustrated by Martin’s hesitation to set a wedding date.
In regards to this, Page Six reported, “She was sick of him dragging his feet,” suggesting the 48-year-old musician’s reluctance to commit to marriage ultimately led to their split.
The news follows Martin’s cryptic mention of Johnson at Coldplay’s Las Vegas concert on June 7, where he encouraged fans to watch her new film Materialists.
While some fans took the shout-out as a sign the couple remained together, others believed it reflected mutual support despite the breakup.
Additionally, Johnson, the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, had long expressed affection for Martin’s children, Apple and Moses, from his previous marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow.
In a 2024 interview, Johnson said, “I love those kids like my life depends on it.”
The Fifty Shades of Grey star is “devastated” by the prospect of seeing less of Martin’s children but “wants them to know that she is always there for them," as per the outlet.
Furthermore, speculation about tension in the couple’s relationship first surfaced in August 2024, though a representative at the time denied any split.
The couple had previously experienced a brief separation in 2019, reportedly over family planning differences, but quickly reconciled.
Martin, who was married to Gwyneth Paltrow for ten years before their widely publicized “conscious uncoupling” in 2014, was first romantically linked to Johnson in October 2017.
Their relationship appeared strong over the years, with reports of holiday celebrations and family gatherings with Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk, as per the publication's claims.
