King Charles visits Lancaster for traditional ceremony of keys

King Charles marked his latest royal visit this morning.

On Monday, the official Instagram handle of the royal family posted a glimpse of Charles’ latest visit.

King Charles, also the Duke of Lancaster, visited Lancaster Castle in the morning.

This visit marked Charles’ first visit to Lancaster as the monarch.

During his visit, the King of Britain met Richard Brock and was greeted by cheering crowds.

As part of the tradition, Charles was handed the keys to the castle in front of the John O’Gaunt gateway.

It is worth mentioning that King Charles has taken part in the ceremony of the keys previously when it was presented to Queen Victoria in 1851, and then the late Queen Elizabeth in 2015.

The palace shared a video glimpse alongside the statement that read, “It was wonderful to meet so many members of the local community at Lancaster Castle this morning!”

“The King, who is also the Duke of Lancaster, has taken part in the traditional Ceremony of the Keys at Lancaster Castle!”

“This tradition dates back to 1851, when the keys to the Castle were presented to Queen Victoria. His Majesty also met members of a Fijian Choir, formed from the First Battalion of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment,” it concluded.

It is worth mentioning that it was King Charles’ visit without Queen Camilla.
